Occidental Cala Vinas

The staff were really helpful - especially Miriam (?) and Bergona (?)- who made sure we had a lovely room. The hotel has a nice, relaxed feel; staff were uniformly polite and cheerful; the all-day snack-bar is handy; and the setting is great. It does cost an extra 13.50 Euros per day for 2 loungers and an umbrella on the actual beach, charged by the local council (the brochure doesn't make this clear). It's a hotel for people who just want to relax, and the beach is great for swimming, or just lounging around.

The best bits… The hotel is in Cala Vinyes which is a beautiful little cove where the sea pretty much remains in all day and creates a wonderful kind of lagoon making swimming and water activities a real joy. As the cove is largely residential with only 1 hotel either side, it is lovely and quiet and if you want a taste of more action, then Magaluf is but a 25-minute walk away. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean. Sufficient storage for 2 people, air conditioning that works really well, the room safe is included with the room, a small fridge and a TV with a variety of channels but only 3 news channels in English. The team at the hotel are all wonderful, pleasant and helpful. A great choice of very nice food, plenty of choice with some local dishes. Excellent varieties of meats and possibly the best fried eggs and bacon for breakfast I have ever had. Each meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner had enough different choices to satisfy most needs. Morning sunbed frenzy – in short, there wasn’t any of that here. So you could have a long relaxing breakfast, get back to your room and still find plenty of space all the way up until lunch time. Events looked fun, the animation team did a great job. Free WiFi! The OK bits.. All Inclusive drinks. The beer is Cruzcampo which can be quite heavy, the wines with meals were at the bottom end of the price scale, drinkable but definitely in the under £5 a bottle territory. Some cocktails were also included but seemed to lack any punch, so they seemed more like a nice fruit flavoured drink. The shower in the room is a monsoon type head, which was okay but lacked a little power so felt a little under whelming. There is a reasonable gym with some pieces of loose weight equipment, smith machine, kettlebells, dumbbells etc , a treadmill and a bike – open most of the day, just didn’t have any air con so take plenty of water. The not so good.. Not much not to like really, I would recommend everything about this hotel, the only area which could improve was the check in. It seemed to take around 20mins per family to check in, that could be quicker and if you arrive with a coach load of others, be prepared for a wait. Whilst not a major issue but when using your room, it would have been better to have a little more TV channel choice in English. There were many more German and French channels comparatively. The TV also had streaming apps, like Netflix, but not connected to the internet so not accessible.

4star room and cleanliness but 3 star food and dining experience as the restaurant is very dark and claustrophobic and the staff are forever trying to catch up with cooking to accommodate diners. Long queues and eventually you give up waiting. But overall excellent value for money. The location made up for everything. Plus the spa experience with Abi, Soray and Sandra who were all lovely and provided wonderful treatments

Great value booked with Jet2 Holidays, hotel was beautiful, great location, beautiful private beach just a few feet from the hotel, pool was cold but refreshing after a hot day. Only thing I would improve were the beds weren’t that comfy and all inclusive food was very repetitive and unimaginative, only a few minutes in a taxi to get to the towns Magaluf/Palma which have great bars and shopping. I would definitely highly recommend and go back to this resort again! There are 5 pools a health spa a shop several bards and restaurants, entertainment all day/night with activities to join in, it is great for families but also couples and more of a quiet chilled out holiday destination to enjoy the pictiresque surroundings.

We where food it was 4star but it was only a 3 star and food was not good all ways cold would not go back jet2 never offered us any money back.its like most off them once they have your money they don't care

On arrival I was rather anxious as the hotel looked to be in a very quiet town with not much going on other than the hotel, which is probably still true but the hotel is super and you don't need much more around. The easy access to the beach is great and the beach is lovely. There's a super boat trip that runs from the beach to Palma which I would really recommend. Food was great, we didn't think to eat out with the hotel once, loved the outdoor eating option although you need to time it correctly! Great range of food to suit everyone in the family. Service was superb across the hotel. Pool area for kids is great. The kids club is hotel run and the entertainment team were fab. They catered well for all nationalities staying there. Outside entertainment shows were good fun and suited couples and families. Bus/taxi ride into Magaulf only 5/10 minutes away for a busier resort, a friendly supermarket just around the corner, the hotel also has a well equipped shop.

My wife had booked this hotel with jet2 holidays all inlusive,she had booked a superior room with sea views first impressions were very good but when we was checking in and told the receptionist we had booked superior room with sea views,her reply was that all rooms were of this standard. We was allotted a room in block 3 on the third floor and proceeded to go to it .on entering the room it was obvious this was not the case .we found that the room was directly above one end of the children's swimming pool ,plus the room was in need of refurbishment. we returned to the reception to allay our views,they gave there apologies ,and said that at that moment there was no spare rooms available ,but after some discussion with the manager they,said that they would be able to move us to a quieter room on the fifth floor the next day. This they did ,which was far superior (with a view of the bay). Two other things which may interest readers is that there appears to be not enough sun beds around the pool area, but there is an area on the rooftop where there is a few(maybe twenty or so),but no umbrellas, anywhere ! this i found strange . All this put aside we found the food of a very good standard with plenty of choice ,with themed nights also. There was also a section for people with special dietary needs All the staff were very good ,and all worked very hard to try to make everyone's holiday special.

This Hotel was quite good but i would not rate the rooms as highly as adverised on the Company site - we booked a Superior room but ive stayed in better only 3 *' and beware not trying to obtain your OWN Drink at meals as its waitered - food was good but a little repetitive in a lot of choices but that said Dining times very good -Would perhaps stay across the Bay tho as too many kiddies and being a quiet area they tend to remain in situ -

Fab hotel situated right on beach front. Very quiet resort but ideal for relaxation. Cost €10 for taxi to Palma Nova not an option to walk given that no street lighting on roads. Hotel rooms very clean as was pool.Sea view not perfect but had sun all evening on balcony so kept room in block 2 5th floor. Could have had more staff to ensure pool areas were kept clean due to some guests not cleaning away rubbish in bins provided! Not nice for other guests however this was due to the minority of guests. Great food choice at all meal times and plenty snacks and drinks available for all inclusive. Staff were very friendly. Would go back. No better recommendation.

Good food, good accommodation, pools are nice and the bonus is the beach! Staff were very helpful particularly in the restaurant. One downside is that there are no sun parasols for children, this is probably because of space difficulties! All in all, lovely place for a family holiday!

The Barceló Cala Vinas is the perfect getaway. It has everything you could possibly need....friendly staff, good food, great entertainment & the location is just perfect. Great for families, couples and groups of friends. We have travelled to many destinations but still come back here to relax and enjoy everything it has to offer. This year June 2016 was our 19th visit so that speaks for itself. My only criticism is that the rooms maybe could do with a wee upgrade as Barceló did take over & renovate the Hotel a number of years ago however time for a bit more investment...the rest of the hotel is excellent. The location is perfect if you want to enjoy the buzz of Palma Nova/Magaluf only 15 mins walk away or if not just completely chill on Cala Vinas beach with the most amazing wee cocktail bar in Mallorca right beside you...Ilchiringnito Cala Vinas.... Francesco & his family will look after you.

We were really looking forward to staying at a Barcelo but we were sadly disappointed. The room was supposed to be a superior one but wasn't particularly good. The air conditioning didn't work properly with the control panel only attached to the wall with one screw, We mentioned it at reception and it was rectified (another screw was added) and it did work better. There was a cigarette end on the balcony when we arrived and it was still there when we left. We found a few long black hairs on the floor (not ours)and I don't think the sheets were changed at all in the 10 days we were there, the beds were made but not very well. There was a fridge, hob and sink but no cups or cutlery (we'd taken our own kettle and had to get some cups from the restaurant, The room location was fantastic - close to the bar, the restaurant and the pool. There were no parasols for the sunbeds - no good for me because I burn easily. You could rent a bed and parasol on the beach but, at 13.50 euros for 2 sunbeds and a parasol it wasn't something we felt we should have to pay for every day. The bar staff were fantastic - really friendly and cheerful and extremely overworked. Unfortunately drinks were served in plastic glasses apart from at Es Pop in the day (not open in the evening) and at the pool bar in the evening but only if you asked for a proper glass! I really can't see the logic of allowing glasses next to the pool and not in the main bar. I'd taken lots of nice clothes to wear in the evening but felt extremely out of place with the canteen look of the tables and chairs around the pool bar. The main bar was much better (apart from the plastic glasses) but was really stuffy, even sitting next to a open window it was still hot. The poor staff behind the bar were melting in the heat. The food in the restaurant was ok but very much the same every day, you were served to a drink but only one (in a proper glass :) ) The evening entertainment was quite poor - the entertainment staff worked really hard but it all relied too much on audience participation.The children seemed to enjoy the entertainment. There was a bus stop near to the hotel which was good value at 1.50 euros into either Magaluf or Palmanova but it got very packed, taxi's varied in price depending on how much traffic there was.

Staff great food great brilliant location holidayed hear from 6th to16th June and would definitely go back only downside the rooms could do with some upgrading. Security very good no problems with any noise at night. M.Costello

Views from rooms were mostly restricted which resulted in our requesting a change which was granted on the second day however this meant we could not unpack our luggage,the hotel is very child friendly which results in the adult only pool not really existing,the rooms are somewhat basic for a Barcelo hotel with a kitchen included which is not used,refurbishment is needed to bring the hotel up to 4stars,food is very good as is service throuout the hotel.
