Achilleion Palace

The Achilleion Palace was built as a summer palace by Empress Elisabeth of Austria in 1890, a year after the tragic loss of her only son. Fascinated by Greek mythology, her palace set in beautiful gardens was themed around the hero Achilles with many artworks, statues and ceiling paintings of the hero.
